【摘要】:TheSCCWmaybepresentintheworkplaceatmospherewherethesematerialsaremanufactured,processed,transported,orused.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtomonitorairborneconcentrationsoffibersintheseenvironments.Itmaybeemployedaspartofapersonalorareamonitoringstrategy.Thistestmethodisbasedonmorphology,elementalcomposition,andcrystalstructure.TheanalysistechniquehastheabilitytopositivelyidentifySCCW.Note18212;ThistestmethodassumesthattheanalystisfamiliarwiththeoperationofTEM/EDSinstrumentationandtheinterpretationofdataobtainedusingthesetechniques.ThistestmethodisapplicableforthemeasurementofthetotalpopulationofSCCWfibersincludingfiberswithdiametersx2264;0.1x03BC;m.Resultsfromtheuseofthistestmethodshallbereportedalongwith95%confidencelimitsforthesamplesbeingstudied.Individuallaboratoriesshalldeterminetheirintralaboratorycoefficientofvariationanduseitforreporting95%confidencelimits(2,5,6).1.1Thistestmethodcoversthesamplingmethodsandanalysistechniquesusedtoassesstheairborneconcentrationandsizedistributionofsingle-crystalceramicwhiskers(SCCW),suchassiliconcarbideandsiliconnitride,whichmayoccurinandaroundtheworkplacewherethesematerialsaremanufactured,processed,transported,orused.Thistestmethodisbasedonthefiltrationofaknownquantityofairthroughafilter.Thefilterissubsequentlyevaluatedwithatransmissionelectronmicroscope(TEM)forthenumberoffibersmeetingappropriatelyselectedmorphologicalandcompositionalcriteria.ThistestmethodhastheabilitytodistinguishamongdifferenttypesoffibersbasedonenergydispersiveX-rayspectroscopy(EDS)analysisandselectedareaelectrondiffraction(SAED)analysis.Thistestmethodmaybeappropriateforotherman-mademineralfibers(MMMF).1.2Thistestmethodisapplicabletothequantitationoffibersonacollectionfilterthataregreaterthan0.5minlength,lessthan3minwidth,andhaveanaspectratioequaltoorgreaterthan5:1().Thedataaredirectlyconvertibletoastatementofconcentrationperunitvolumeofairsampled.Thistestmethodislimitedbytheamountofcoincidentinterferenceparticles.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
