【摘要】:Theapparatusandproceduredescribedprovidesameansformeasurementofthestiffnessofalayerofsoilorsoil-aggregatemixturefromwhichaYoung''smodulusmaybedeterminedforanassumedPoisson''sratio.Lowstraincyclicloadingisappliedbytheapparatusaboutastaticloadthatisconsistentwithhighwayapplications(1).Thismethodisusefulasanon-destructivemethodformonitoringorcontrollingcompactionsoastoavoidunder-compaction,over-compactionorwastedeffort.Throughanunderstandingofhowstiffnessrelatestodensityforaparticularmaterial,moisturecontentandcompactionprocedure,thestiffnessachievedcanberelatedto%compactioninconnectionwithdensitybasedcompactioncontrolorspecifications,forexample,tomeettherequirementsofMethodD698usingstandardeffortorMethodD1557usingmodifiedeffort.Thismethodappliestosiltyandclayeymaterialscontaininggreaterthan20%fines.Insuchcases,therelationshipbetweenstiffnessanddrydensityordryunitweightissensitivetothewatercontent.Watercontentsshouldbedeterminedbyuseof:TestMethodD2216,D4643,orD4959.Ifthedeterminationcannotbemadeimmediatelyatthetimeofthestiffnessmeasurements,thensoilsamplesshallbepreservedandtransportedinaccordancewithPracticeD4220,Section8,GroupsB,C,orDsoils.Thismethodisusefulintheconstructionofroadbasesorearthworks,includingtheinstallationofburiedpipe(2).Therapid,non-penetratingnatureofthismethodissuitedtoproductiontesting,forexample,itprovidesameansoftestingthatdoesnotnecessarilyinterferewithordelayconstruction.Thismethodissuitableformitigatingtheriskofpavementfailure.Byassuringtherelativeuniformityofhighwaysubbase,subgradeandbasestiffnesses,stressesonthepavementismoreuniformlydistributed.Inthiswaythelifeofapavementisextendedandrepairsminimized.Thismethodissuitablefordeterminingwhenthesurfaceofasoilorsoil-aggregatestructureiscapableofsupportingdesignloads.Thisisusefulforstabilizedfillswherethematerialhardens(stiffens)overtimewithoutmeasurablechangesindensityormoisturecontent.Thistestmethodissuitableforthein-placedeterminationofaYoung''sandashearmodulusofsoilandsoil-aggregatemixtures(3,4).Stiffness,asmeasuredbythismethod,isrelatedtomodulus(5)fromanassumptionofPoisson''sratioandfromtheradiusofthefootoftheapparatusasfollows:where:Kgr
